A representative from the Association of Persons with Cerebral Palsy and Other Disabilities – Veles participated in a study visit to Lower Austria, organized the project “TransAct.” The Macedonian delegation consisted of representatives from non-governmental organizations providing social services, the Deputy Minister of Health Jovica Andov, a representative from the Ministry of Social Policy, Demography and Youth, the mayors of the municipalities of Gradsko and Krivogaštani, the Secretary of the Municipality of Prilep, a representative from the Inter-Municipal Center for Social Work Prilep, as well as a representative from the Institute for Social Activities at ESM.
During the period from April 20 to 24, the delegation had the opportunity to become acquainted with a range of successful projects and modern models of social and healthcare services implemented in Lower Austria. This study visit represented an exceptionally important and valuable experience, with participants expressing sincere gratitude to the hosts for their warm welcome, openness in sharing knowledge, and willingness to cooperate. Such meetings not only enable the exchange of experiences but also open new horizons and ideas for further development.
The visit was of particular importance for strengthening capacities and knowledge in the field of social and healthcare protection in Macedonia. Through direct exposure to best practices, innovative approaches, and integrated services, a real opportunity is created for their application and adaptation within our system. Participants emphasized the importance of continuously improving services in order to ensure higher-quality support for citizens, especially for vulnerable groups.
During the study visit, several institutions and services were visited, including the Red Cross in Mistelbach, the Psychosocial Service, as well as a presentation of the “Community Nurse” service. The delegation also visited the day care center for the elderly “Clementinum” where they were introduced to animal-assisted therapy and the “Meals on Wheels” project. Additionally, visits were made to a shelter center for women victims of domestic violence, the General Hospital in Mistelbach, Acute Community Nursing, as well as youth centers.
It is particularly significant that this visit represents a strong foundation for intensifying cooperation between Macedonia and Austria, as well as for deepening partnerships with relevant institutions and organizations. There are substantial opportunities for further exchange of experiences, joint projects, and knowledge transfer, which will contribute to the development of more efficient, accessible, and high-quality services.
The participants expressed their gratitude and satisfaction with the overall organization and implementation of the study visit, with the assurance that the acquired experiences will be meaningfully utilized toward improving healthcare and social services in Macedonia, as well as in building stronger and more sustainable international cooperation.
